Sweden found a tomato gene for cancer treatment

Release date: 2010-04-01

Swedish researchers have recently discovered that a combination of a tomato gene and a drug can destroy cancer cells, a finding that will help treat cancer with gene therapy.
Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have published a communique recently saying that the tomato gene is "very active" in helping to build and repair the tomato genome, but it is not enough to destroy cancer cells. After testing different drugs, the researchers finally found that this tomato gene combined with the anti-AIDS drug AZT can fight cancer cells more effectively.
The researchers pointed out that many people have doubts about gene therapy, worrying that the patient's genes will change after receiving treatment, causing more adverse reactions. However, the above studies do not have this risk because the tomato gene is only injected into cancer cells and does not affect other cells. Meditech Medical Network
