Vegetable mulching covers new forms

1. This mulching technique is ideal for growing vegetables such as cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants. A transparent film measuring 90 to 100 cm in width and 0.01 to 0.008 mm in thickness is laid over the surface of the sorghum bed. The edges of the mulch are pressed down on the top of the dome, covering about two-thirds to three-quarters of it. The sorghum bed specifications include a bottom width of 100 to 110 cm, a bed width of 80 to 85 cm, a height of 10 to 15 cm, and a furrow width of 30 to 40 cm. When creating the bed, ensure the center is slightly raised to allow for tighter film coverage.

2. This method is suitable for onions, cabbages, and other similar vegetables. The mulch used here is 100 to 110 cm wide and can be adjusted according to the length of the field. Before planting, the film is laid flat on the ground and secured with soil around the edges. Compared to using stakes, this method is more labor-efficient but may lead to surface pollution during irrigation and increase soil temperature.

3. This form is commonly used for cultivating green peppers and cabbages. The bed size is approximately 73 cm wide at the base, 40 cm wide at the top, and 17 cm high. The mulch is placed over the planting area, allowing for two or three rows of plants per bed. This method helps maintain consistent moisture and promotes healthy growth.

4. It's suitable for large frame cowpeas. The bed dimensions are 53 cm wide, 33 cm wide, and 16 cm high. The mulch is simply placed over the bed surface, helping to retain soil moisture and control weeds.

5. This technique is ideal for early spring cabbage, water radishes, and root vegetables, as well as for perennial crops like spinach and leeks before they regreen. A short-term mulch is applied to the surface to accelerate growth and improve market readiness by earlier harvests.

6. This method is suitable for green peppers, cucumbers, cabbages, tomatoes, and cowpeas. A trench with a width of 40 to 50 cm and a depth of 15 to 20 cm is created, where seedlings (or seeds) are planted. Afterward, the mulch is placed over the trench. Once the seedlings emerge, the film is either tied or cut open, allowing the plants to grow through the opening after the last frost. This enables earlier planting in areas prone to night frosts.

7. This technique is ideal for growing green peppers, cucumbers, and eggplants. The film is shaped into a pair of large cockroaches, and seeds or seedlings are sown or planted inside the inner part of the double arch. The film is then covered, allowing the plants to grow within the space between the two arches for a certain period. The seedlings are then guided out of the film once the risk of night frost has passed.

8. This mulching method is suitable for vegetables such as horned melons, cucumbers, and green peppers. After some vegetables have been transplanted, wicker or bamboo can be used to create arches over the beds. The frame dimensions are typically 33 cm wide and 33 cm high. The film is then stretched over the structure and secured with soil. Once the frost risk has passed, the mulch can be removed and replaced with ground cover for continued plant growth.
