Mongolian cattle

Mongolian cattle are produced in the Mongolian highlands and are mainly distributed in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Xinjiang, Gansu and Ningxia in the adjacent northwestern region, Shanxi and Hebei in North China, and Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang in Northeast China. Mongolian cattle are resistant to roughage, cold-resistant, disease-resistant and able to adapt to harsh environmental conditions.

First, body features

Mongolian cattle are of medium size, with strong physique and rough. The bull's head is short, wide and heavy, with a low forehead and a long horn. It bends forward and upwards, showing a sallow or bluish-purple color, with short angular spacing. The bull's horn is 40 cm long and the cow is 20 cm. The skin is undeveloped and flat. The chest is flat and deep, with a straight back, narrow hindquarters, a tilted body, and well-opened posterior ribs. Cows have small breast size, few connective tissues, and small nipples. Short limbs, multiple knife-like hind limbs. The hooves are medium in size and the hoofs are strong. The skin is thick, subcutaneous connective tissue has developed, and winter has multiple villi. Most of the coat color is not black or yellow, followed by raccoon or smoky, and it is common to have various hair color such as flower hair. The average body height is 108.5 to 122.7 cm and the body weight is 206.3 to 365.5 kg.

Second, production performance

Mongolian cattle has a variety of economic uses for meat milk, but its production performance is not very high. The average weight of an adult bull is 350 kg and that of a cow is 300 kg. Adult cattle slaughter rate was 55.7% for cows, 53% for yak, net meat ratios were 47.7% and 44.5%, ratio of bone to flesh was 1:5.3, and eye muscle area was 44.2 cm2. The average amount of lactation within 100 days was 518 kg, and the milk fat percentage was 5.2%, with a maximum of 9%. Cows began estrus from 8 to 12 months of age, and began to breed at the age of 2 years. The estrus cycle is 19 to 26 days, and the first estrus after delivery is more than 65 days. Cow estrus is concentrated in April to November. The average gestation period was 284.8 days. The reproduction rate is 50-60% and the survival rate of calves is 90%.
