Low light is good for fattening rabbits

Some of the natural habits that wild rabbits have developed over time still remain today. In practical breeding scenarios, it has been observed that meat rabbits grow faster in a dimly lit environment. According to experiments, when rabbits were raised in dark cages for six months under identical feeding conditions, they gained 250 to 350 grams more compared to those kept in well-lit cages. In low-light settings, meat rabbits tend to change their usual behavior—instead of being inactive during the day and more active at night, they develop a more balanced eating pattern throughout the day and night. Moreover, living in a dim environment reduces external disturbances such as noise, light exposure, and other animal activities. This leads to increased food consumption, better digestion, and improved growth rates. The calm and stable environment helps reduce stress, which further supports the overall health and development of the rabbits. However, while raising meat rabbits in a dark environment can be beneficial, long-term lack of sunlight exposure may affect their health. To ensure proper growth and well-being, there are two key points to consider: First, maintaining clean and hygienic cage conditions is essential to prevent diseases and infections. Second, the diet should be well-balanced and nutritionally complete to support their growth and immune system. By carefully managing these factors, breeders can take full advantage of the benefits provided by a dimly lit environment while ensuring the long-term health of their meat rabbits.
