The project is based on the use of cheap straw cellulose biomass and biohydrogen residue as the raw material for the preparation of bioflocculants. A two-stage fermentation method was designed to determine the industrial process flow and the optimum fermentation parameters. Through the effective screening and compounding scheme of the bacteria-producing bacteria, a complex and efficient flocculant group F2 and F6 were constructed. At the same time, the optimal fermentation process conditions for the preparation of composite bioflocculants were determined, laying a solid foundation for the industrial production of bioflocculants.

At present, flocculants are widely used in water treatment, wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical industry, food industry and fermentation industry. The research team led by Ma Fang and Ren Nanqi started research on bio-flocculants since 1997 and was listed as a key scientific and technological project in Heilongjiang Province. In order to realize the industrialization of the research results as soon as possible, Harbin Institute of Technology Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. has listed the development of compound bio-flocculants as a key development industrialization project.

Figures show that China has nearly 600 million tons of straw each year, but its utilization is less than 20% of the total. The large-scale production of complex bioflocculant using straw as raw material can increase the utilization of straw every year to 60-80% of the total amount. It is expected that the resource utilization rate of straw will be increased by three times, and the recycling of resources will be realized.

It is predicted that the annual demand for flocculants in the water treatment pharmaceutical market in China will be about 1.5 to 2 million tons, and annual sales will be about 2 to 3 billion yuan.
