If ginger is processed into ginger oil, its economic benefits can be increased by 3-5 times. The extraction of ginger oil by distillation is easy to operate, and the equipment used is not high. The majority of township enterprises and more powerful rural private enterprises can be used. The principle and specific extraction process of extracting ginger oil by distillation are described below.

Extraction principle

Using the volatility and water insolubility of ginger oil, the ginger oil is distilled out by steam, and after cooling and oil-water separation, the ginger oil product is obtained.

Extraction process points

1. Raw material pretreatment. The fresh ginger without worms, mold-free, and germination was selected as the raw material, and the roots were removed, and the ginger pieces of 4-5 mm thick were cut with a knife. Note that the raw materials should not be rotted or deteriorated, otherwise the quality of ginger oil will be affected.

2. Drying. The ginger pieces are baked at a temperature of 60 ° C - 65 ° C for 6-8 hours, so that the water content of the fresh ginger pieces is reduced to less than 12%. It can also be placed on bamboo curtains for 5-6 days. Generally, 12.5 kg of dried ginger is prepared per 100 kg of fresh ginger.

3. Crush. The dried ginger pieces were pulverized into rice granules by a pulverizer and passed through a 20 mesh sieve. Ginger powder should not be too thick, too thick to affect the oil; nor too fine, too fine water vapor is not easy to penetrate.

4. Distillation and cooling. Prepare the stainless steel steamer, place the tweezers in the steamer, spread a layer of gauze on the tweezers, and spread the ginger powder loosely on the gauze. The surface of the ginger powder and the upper layer of scorpion should retain a certain space for the passage of water vapor. After the ginger powder is installed, connect the distillation tube of the steamer to the cooler. Pay attention to keep the inlet and outlet height difference of the cooler, the inlet is high, and the outlet is low. This constitutes a set of distillation cooling equipment.

Steam is passed through the steamer to maintain the steam pressure at 0.12-0.13 MPa. In this way, the steam passes through the ginger powder, and the ginger oil in the ginger powder is vaporized by the high temperature action of the steam, and the steam and the vaporized ginger oil are cooled into a water-oil mixture in the cooler as the steam enters the cooler from the distillation tube.

5. Oil and water separation. The oil-water mixture is collected at the outlet of the cooler by a water-oil separator. After standing, the oil-water is automatically separated, the upper layer is ginger oil, and the lower layer is water. The lower layer of water is removed using a separator to obtain a ginger oil product. The oil yield of this method is generally 100 kg of ginger powder and 3-4 kg of ginger oil can be extracted.
