The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that mainland imported infectious diseases continue to grow. Epidemiology of Imported Infectious Diseases, China, 2005-2016, published in the journal Emerg Infect Dis. Vol. 25, No.1, January 2019, in January 2019, confirming the importation of sexual transmission in China The number of diseases increased from 2 in 2005 to 11 in 2016. During the period 2005-2016, a total of 31,740 cases of infectious diseases were imported from the Mainland, most of which were found in Yunnan Province. These cases were mainly imported from Africa and Asia, including 27497 malaria cases, 3351 cases of dengue fever, and 773 cases of influenza A. (H1N1), 24 cases of Zika virus disease, 18 cases of chikungunya fever, 11 cases of yellow fever, 2 cases of poliomyelitis caused by acute flaccid paralysis, and sputum-transmitted diseases such as Lyme disease and Xinjiang hemorrhagic fever Severe hemorrhagic fever, tsutsugamushi disease and other mouse-borne diseases.

The researchers collected data on imported infectious diseases in China from the National Infectious Diseases Information Reporting System and analyzed population, time and spatial distribution.

With the advancement of globalization, frequent personnel exchanges and close cooperation with international trade, infectious diseases from all over the world can be imported into China. The number of inbound tourists from Africa increased from 238,000 in 2005 to 589,000 in 2016, while the number of inbound tourists from Asia increased from 12.5 million in 2005 to 18 million in 2016. Some infectious diseases have re-emerged, such as the epidemic hemorrhagic fever and malaria that were previously largely controlled, and the wild poliovirus that was eliminated in China in 2000.

Most imported cases are male and most of the imported diseases are seasonal. For example, yellow fever is mainly imported in March, malaria is high in April-August, peaks in May-June, and Japanese encephalitis virus is 6-9. Entered during the month, and dengue fever usually peaks in October. The Zika virus is mainly imported through major festivals around the international airport, such as the Spring Festival, Labor Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.

The number and types of imported infectious diseases have also increased in recent years, mainly for four reasons. The first is economic globalization, convenient and rapid transportation, and the spread of diseases such as global warming, floods, droughts, and natural migration of animals, increasing the risk of disease transmission in the country. Second, it is related to the increase in the number of migrant workers and the number of tourists in China. Third, the level of surveillance, diagnosis and detection of infectious diseases in China has increased, which has contributed to the increase in the number and type of confirmed cases. Finally, some are caused by newly discovered or newly emerging infections, such as MERS. Information on the epidemiological characteristics of these imported infectious diseases provides scientific information for the development of public health strategies.
