Temperature and pig raising

Pigs are warm-blooded animals, the normal body temperature is between 38.7-39.8 °C, the external temperature is more stringent, the temperature is too high or too low, exceeding the appropriate temperature range of the pig, it will affect the pig's growth and development, resulting in increased feed consumption The cost of raising the livestock will increase. Severe pigs will also cause morbidity and even death.

First, the specific requirements of the pig temperature

According to experiments, pigs have the fastest growth and the lowest feed consumption. The most suitable temperature is 20-24°C. Pigs have different genders, different ages, and their optimum temperatures are not the same. The specific temperature requirements are:

1, the suitable temperature of newborn piglets. The temperature of the newborn piglet is relatively high, 32-35°C, and it is extremely sensitive to temperature. Therefore, it is extremely important that the piglets do a good job of insulation. Later, as the age continues to increase, the adaptability to the outside temperature will gradually increase, and the temperature requirements will become increasingly loose. For one-month-old weaned piglets, the suitable temperature is 1-2-26°C for 1-2 weeks after weaning; 24-26°C for 2 weeks, and then 2-3°C for the next week, until it reaches the appropriate temperature for normal pig growth. 15- 25°C.

2, the appropriate temperature of the sow. The suitable temperature for empty sows is 16-19°C; the suitable temperature for pregnant sows is 14-16°C, and the suitable temperature for lactating sows after sowling is 15-20°C.

3, the appropriate temperature for breeding boars. The suitable temperature for a boar is 10-18°C.

It is worth noting that no matter whether it is a breeder, a sow or a piglet, when the temperature reaches 40°C, it cannot support or even cause death. Therefore, in the summer of breeding pigs, we must do a good job in preventing heatstroke and cooling.

Second, the relationship between temperature and pig growth and development

The growth and development of pigs are as follows: piglet hair is thin, skin and subcutaneous fat layer is thin, and therefore cold; thick pig skin and subcutaneous fat layer, sweat gland degradation, can not regulate body temperature by sweating, and thus afraid of heat. Therefore, if pigs want to obtain high safety, artificially create suitable temperature conditions for pig growth and development.

If the temperature is too high or too low, the libido of the boar will be reduced, even abnormal sperm and dead sperm will appear, affecting the conception of the sow and reducing the breeding rate.

Sows that are 3 to 25 days of gestation produce 2-3 fewer piglets at a high temperature of 32°C than at a temperature of 15°C.

Sustained high temperature of 27-30 °C will affect the estrus and ovulation of sows, significantly reduce the conception rate of sows, and also cause stillbirth of sows.

In the suitable temperature range of 20-24°C, the weight gain of 1 kg for each 1°C reduction, and the weaned pigs and growing pigs consumed 43.6 g and 76.9 g respectively, which is lower than the lower limit of the suitable temperature of 20°C. For every 1°C drop, the daily weight gain is reduced by 15 grams, which consumes 3 grams of feed. When the temperature reaches 37.8°C, more than 68 kg of pigs will lose weight. The higher the temperature, the greater the weight loss, leading to a decrease in feed intake and even death from heat stroke.

Third, winter and summer temperature management measures

North winter pigs, we must do a good job of cold and warm work, it is best to use plastic insulation greenhouses, newborn piglets also have a stove, fire wall and other insulation. At the same time, we must also do a good job of ventilation and dehumidification, keep the air in the house fresh, and the humidity is appropriate. In the summer, we must do everything possible to do a good job in preventing the heat and cooling. Under normal feeding and management conditions, cooling measures such as shading canopies, exhaust fans, and cold water canopies can be used. Shower facilities can also be added if necessary. Summer pig feeding should be conducted when the morning and evening weather is cool, and breeding should be carried out when the morning and evening weather are cool. With good conditions, it is best to divide the house according to the sex and age of the pig to create a suitable temperature condition for growth and development.
