The reason and solution to the leakage of outer groove wheel type fertilizer box
Fertilizer leakage in outer groove wheel type fertilizer boxes is a common issue, especially when applying pure urea. Due to its fine particles and smooth surface, urea has excellent flowability, which makes it more prone to leakage during operation. Based on real-world usage scenarios, the following are the main causes and solutions for this problem.
Firstly, improper selection of fertilizer boxes can lead to leakage. It's crucial to choose a fertilizer box that is suitable for pure urea application. Otherwise, even with adjustments, the problem may persist. There are many products available from different manufacturers, each with varying applicability. For example, the 2BF 24-type 24-row fertilizer planter is designed to work well with urea. These boxes can be installed and adjusted according to technical specifications to ensure no leakage. When purchasing, make sure the surface is smooth, free of burrs, and the grooves are properly formed. Pay special attention to the groove of the row wheel. The fat tongue should be positioned at the smallest opening, which is the topmost adjustment hole. Check that the distance between the convex stalks and the blocking wheel sheave is less than the size of the urea granules. If not, urea will leak due to vibration. Also, ensure there’s no gap larger than the urea particles at the upper part of the rear baffle, and the lower end should have a slight gap with the grooves of the convex stalks and blocking wheel sheaves—still smaller than the granules.
Secondly, excessive clearance between the blocking wheel and the row runner wheel can cause leakage. This often happens due to incorrect installation or poor positioning of the clamps. If the wheels shift, gaps form, leading to leakage. During installation, check carefully and adjust as needed. Over time, wear can increase the clearance, so regular inspections are necessary. The blocking wheel and row runner wheel must be tightly aligned, rotating smoothly without any gaps. The clearance should be less than 1mm. If it's too large, the sheave might lose fertilizer when not rotating, and when rotating, it may release more than intended, causing uneven distribution. Also, clean any debris at the engagement points to minimize clearance and ensure smooth rotation.
Thirdly, improper installation of the fat tongue can lead to leakage. The main function of the fat tongue is to adjust the opening based on the size of the fertilizer particles, not to control the amount of fertilizer applied. Increasing the opening may increase the amount of fertilizer, but it can also result in uneven distribution and leakage. On the side wall of the fertilizer box, there are three height adjustment positions for the tongue. The topmost hole provides the smallest opening, suitable for small granular fertilizers like standard urea. The tongue should be positioned close to the convex stalks under the blocking wheel, with a gap smaller than the urea granules. The middle hole is for medium-sized granules, such as wheat-sized fertilizer, while the bottom hole is for larger granules like soybeans or corn kernels. Choose the appropriate position based on the particle size, insert the cotter pin into the selected hole, and ensure it passes through the tongue's positioning groove to prevent vertical movement and changes in the opening.
Lastly, damage to the fertilizer boxes can also cause leakage. Ensure the coaxiality of each fertilizer box and the row shaft is minimal, allowing for smooth rotation. If there are significant deviations, you can adjust by adding paper pads at the top of the boxes or moving them back and forth to reduce resistance and wear. This helps protect the fertilizer box and maintain its performance over time.
