Cucumber Bacterial Kerb Disease Control Technology
It is known that greenhouse cucumbers in the flowering stage are now suffering from bacterial leaf spot, and immediate action is necessary to prevent further spread. The ideal temperature for the development of cucumber angular leaf spot is between 25°C and 28°C. This year, due to the unusually warm weather in early spring, the disease has appeared earlier than usual. The infection typically begins on the leaves, starting with small, water-soaked, yellowish spots on the underside of the leaves. As the disease progresses, these spots become more defined, turning into brown, polygonal lesions surrounded by a yellow halo. When the area is wet, a white bacterial ooze can be seen oozing from the lesions. Once dry, the affected areas may crack or form holes.
To manage this disease, it is recommended to spray the plants with either a 72% agricultural streptomycin solution diluted at 4000 times or a neomycinectin solution also diluted at 4000 times. Apply the treatment every 7 to 10 days, repeating the process 2 to 3 times for best results.
In addition, because of the frequent rain during spring, proper dehumidification in the greenhouses is essential. It’s important to stop ventilation on the leeward side when it rains and ensure that rice straw inside the shed is kept dry. Regularly remove infected plants, leaves, and fruits to minimize the risk of spreading the bacteria further. Keeping the greenhouse clean and well-ventilated can significantly reduce the likelihood of disease outbreaks. Early detection and prompt action are key to maintaining healthy cucumber crops.
