Cucumber Bacterial Kerb Disease Control Technology
It is known that greenhouse cucumbers at the flowering stage are now suffering from bacterial leaf spot, which requires immediate attention and control. The ideal temperature range for the development of cucumber bacterial angular spot is between 25°C and 28°C. This year, due to the earlier and warmer spring climate, the disease has appeared earlier than usual in greenhouses. The infection typically starts on the leaves, with initial symptoms showing as small, water-soaked, circular yellow spots on the underside of the leaves. As the disease progresses, these spots become polygonal, dark brown lesions surrounded by a distinct yellow halo. When humidity is high, a white, bacterial exudate can be seen oozing from the affected areas. Once the lesions dry, they often develop holes or perforations.
To manage this disease, it is recommended to spray the plants with a 72% agricultural streptomycin solution diluted at 4000 times or a neomycinectin solution also at 4000 times. Apply the treatment every 7 to 10 days, repeating it 2 to 3 times for best results.
In addition, because of the frequent rainfall during spring, it is crucial to maintain proper dehumidification inside the greenhouses. Make sure to close ventilation on the leeward side when rain stops, and dry out any wet rice straw in the shed. Promptly remove and dispose of infected plants, leaves, and fruits to prevent the spread of the pathogen. Regular monitoring and early intervention are key to controlling the disease effectively and minimizing crop losses.
