Feeding and breeding sows "Three tricks"

In the process of raising sows, it is essential to follow natural laws and make full use of favorable environmental conditions in pig farming while avoiding adverse factors. By doing so, we can achieve better practical results. So, how can this be done effectively? The following methods are introduced for reference by farmers, breeders, and professional hog raisers. Choosing the right season is a smart strategy. Breeding during cold winters or hot summers can be harmful to sow fertility and may even lead to significant losses. It is best to breed sows during spring and autumn when the temperature is moderate. For example, breeding should take place from early November to early December, with farrowing occurring in March of the following year. Alternatively, breeding between early May and early June will result in farrowing in September. These two periods are considered the most favorable seasons for raising piglets. They also provide an ideal time for sows after weaning, which helps improve conception rates, litter size, and overall piglet growth. Large-scale farms with good farrowing facilities can consider year-round breeding to further enhance reproductive performance. Another key factor is the timely induction of estrus and ovulation. Ensuring that sows come into heat on schedule, ovulate properly, and are bred at the right time is crucial for successful breeding and larger litters. For sows experiencing estrus disorders due to hormonal imbalances or other causes, the "tristimulus hormone" can be used as a treatment. The method involves injecting 2 ml of the triad hormone intramuscularly into sows that have been weaned for more than five days. This helps stimulate estrus, promote ovulation, and ensure timely mating. Postpartum care is equally important. Sows are prone to diseases such as mastitis, metritis, vaginitis, and postpartum fever, which can lead to secondary pneumonia and even death. To prevent these issues, a preventive injection can be given shortly after birth. The recommended method is to administer a mixture of 10 ml of aminopyrine, 2 million units of penicillin, and 100 million units of streptomycin intramuscularly behind the ear of the sow within 12 hours of delivery. This has proven highly effective in preventing the four main puerperal diseases and reducing mortality caused by secondary infections.
