During mid-summer, loaches grow rapidly and have a high appetite. It is recommended to feed them with concentrates that make up 5% to 8% of their total body weight each day. Ensuring proper feeding not only supports their growth but also helps maintain their health and vitality.
Water temperature plays a crucial role in loach farming. The ideal temperature range is between 22°C and 28°C. When the temperature exceeds 30°C, it becomes stressful for the loaches. To manage this, you can increase the water depth to around 0.8 to 1 meter, which helps regulate the temperature. Additionally, regularly changing the water in a slow, continuous flow can further cool the water body and create a more stable environment for the fish.
Disease outbreaks are common during the summer, especially with mud loaches. Common diseases include gill rot, fungal infections, and enteritis. To prevent these, it's advisable to apply a 110-6 bleach solution throughout the pond. Alternatively, crushed leeks and garlic can be mixed into the feed to boost the loaches' immunity. Allicin can also be added to the feed and given once daily for three consecutive days. Another effective method is to sprinkle 12.5 to 15 kg of quicklime per acre of water in the pond, which helps disinfect and improve water quality.
By maintaining good water conditions, proper feeding, and regular disease prevention measures, farmers can significantly improve the survival rate and growth of mud loaches, ensuring a successful and sustainable aquaculture operation.
