Hairless spiderweed (Figure)

The hairless spiderweed, scientifically known as *Commelina* species, is a perennial herb that thrives in various temperate regions. It features upright stems that often grow in clusters, with a thick or nearly thick structure. The leaves are linear to linear-acicular in shape, tapering to a point and usually curved, appearing slightly flat or folded downward. The flowers of this plant are striking, with a deep blue corolla that measures approximately 3 to 4 cm in width. The blooms are nearly round, ranging from 1.4 to 2.07 cm in diameter. In North China, the flowering season typically begins in May and continues through October, while in East China, it starts as early as late April and lasts until the end of October. The peak blooming period occurs between May and June, followed by a second wave from July to October. This plant prefers a cool and humid climate and exhibits strong cold tolerance, making it well-suited for temperate regions with moderate temperatures. It is commonly found in open fields, along roadsides, and in moist areas where it can thrive without much competition. Its unique appearance and resilience make it an interesting addition to native plant gardens and ecological landscapes.
