Poinsettia is an evergreen shrub with upright stems that exude a milky sap. The leaves are alternate, ovate-elliptic in shape, with lower leaves being green and upper ones forming colorful bracts, often red. The inflorescence appears at the top. From April to May, select healthy and vigorous branches that are about 10 cm long. After cutting, rinse off the milky sap from the cut end, let it dry, and then plant it in well-draining soil. Maintain a temperature of 22–25°C, and rooting typically takes 4 to 18 days.

Choose fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and place the plant in a sunny location. During the growing season, control the height by pruning. Pinching back is usually done in late June and mid-August, leaving 3–5 branches per pot. Fertilize every two weeks, adding calcium and magnesium to enhance the color of the bracts. If you provide 8 hours of short-day treatment daily, the bracts will turn red earlier, making it perfect for holiday displays.
