The characteristics of garlic leaf spot disease and its control methods

(1) The symptoms primarily affect the leaves. Lesions appear as elongated spots, initially pale brown and later turning grayish-white. A fine, grayish-black mold develops on both sides of the lesions. In severe cases, the lesions merge together, leading to leaf death. The disease is more prevalent during warm days and cool nights, especially in conditions with heavy dew, high humidity, and prolonged rainfall. (2) Prevention and control measures include: 1. Promptly removing infected leaves to prevent spread. 2. Improving field management by ensuring proper plant density, timely drainage after rain, and promoting overall plant health to enhance resistance to disease. 3. Applying fungicides at the early stage of infection. Recommended treatments include 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder diluted 600 times, 50% acetamiprid wettable powder diluted 1500 times, 64% mancozeb wettable powder diluted 500 times, or 60% phosphine wettable powder diluted 500 times. Alternatively, a 1:1:100 Bordeaux mixture can be used. Apply the treatment every 7–10 days for 3–4 consecutive applications. Always follow the recommended waiting period before harvesting to ensure safety. It's important to rotate fungicides to avoid resistance development and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe and effective use. Regular monitoring of the crop is essential to detect early signs of the disease and take immediate action.
