Fertilizer Fermentation Agents Improve Aquaculture Environment
With the restructuring of the agricultural industry and changes in people's dietary habits, aquaculture has grown rapidly across China. This growth has led to a significant increase in livestock and poultry manure, which not only pollutes the environment but also threatens the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector. Many companies have introduced various solutions to address this pressing issue. However, most of these methods require expensive machinery, making them unsuitable for small-scale farmers who operate on tight margins.
On the other hand, there are simpler and more cost-effective solutions that can be widely adopted by farmers. One such solution is using microbial fermentation agents. These agents offer a comprehensive approach, helping to save costs, prevent diseases, and maintain environmental safety.
When livestock manure is mixed with an appropriate amount of straw and combined with a microbial fermentation agent, the temperature of the mixture goes through several stages: from moderate to high and back to moderate. In the initial phase, the temperature rises as oxygen-consuming microorganisms dominate. These include non-spore-forming bacteria, spore-forming bacteria, and molds, which begin to multiply rapidly. They break down easily degradable organic materials like sugars, starches, and proteins, generating heat and raising the temperature of the pile to around 50°C. This stage is known as the "warming period."
As the process continues, the temperature increases further, reaching 65–70°C or even higher, entering the "high-temperature phase." At this stage, harmful pathogens and viruses are effectively eliminated. The high temperature also helps decompose complex organic materials such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectin. During this time, the process of humification begins, where organic matter transforms into stable humus.
Once the temperature drops back to a moderate level, the material enters the maturation stage. Actinomycetes become dominant, forming white hyphae on the surface and giving off a wine-like smell—signs of high-quality organic fertilizer. Additionally, treated chicken manure can be safely used as animal feed after proper fermentation. This method not only reduces waste but also enhances resource utilization, promoting a more sustainable and eco-friendly farming system.
